Service Description

PWR! Moves Fitness Therapy with Brenda Mazanec Every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. The Movement Connection, Colby To attend this free class, you must first complete a required physical intake assessment with Brenda Mazanec at The Movement Connection. The intake assessment is free and helps us fulfill our grant programming goals which makes these Moving to Live classes available. Once you are ready to attend class, please either call or text Elaine Ptacek or email Crystal Berg at parkinsons@movingtolive.org to reserve your spot. Please remember space is limited, so if you are not able to attend class, please be sure to cancel your reservation as soon as possible. This class utilizes a "use it or lose it" mentality to reinforce your dopamine circuits – the building blocks of mobility and function. PWR! Moves is a specialized Parkinson's exercise program that will help you restore and maintain skills that deteriorate over time with the onset of PD and interfere with everyday life. The flexible and functional amplitude-focused exercise approach targets multiple symptoms and allows for adaptation for disease severity. The basic four moves are performed with large amplitude, high effort and attention to action in multiple postures (floor, all fours, sitting and standing). They specifically target four skills shown by research to interfere with mobility in people with PD (antigravity extension, weight shifting, axial mobility, and transitional movements). Brenda Mazanec is the owners and manager of The Movement Connection and, among other things, is a certified Parkinson Wellness Recovery Instructor. For over 20 years, Brenda has fostered a commitment to researching the connection between movement and the human development. With degrees in health, physical education, recreation, family and consumer science, and more than 10 years of personal research, we are thrilled with the inclusion of Brenda's expertise in our "Moving to Live" program and free class offerings. Starting promptly at 10 a.m., fitness class typically lasts 30 to 45 minutes depending the physical abilities and stamina of the group. However, The Movement Connection is reserved from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Wednesday. Please feel free to arrive early if you have questions or need a little extra time to get ready for class to start. And, stay late and enjoy group support for patients of PD and their caregivers at "Coffee and Conversation." Light refreshments will be provided.
