Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative progressive disorder that affects dopamine-producing neurons in the substantia nigra of the brain. The progression of symptoms differs from one person to another. people with PD may experience tremors, slowness of movements, (bradykinesia) gait and balance issues, dystonia and non-motor symptoms including anxiety, dperession, constipation, and cognitive impairment.
Parkinson's Families of Northwest Kansas, a nonprofit 501(c)3 charitable organization, makes life better for those suffering from PD by offering free activities, free weekly therapies, resources and educational opportunities. Parkinson's Families is led by a group of volunteers living in rural northwest Kansas who are directly benefited by PD.
Thank you for sponsoring our Walk-a-Thon. All proceeds benefit the free programs and activities offered by Parkinson's Families of Northwest Kansas. As the only organization within at least 150 miles, whose sole mission is to improve the health and well-being of PD individuals, Parkinson's Families offers weekly classes in three participating locations. We offer specialized fitness and stretching, peer support and counseling, and rotatinhg services and presentations that include diet and nutrition, art, music therapy, and other related topics. All of our weekly classes are offered FREE OF CHARGE for those affected by Parkinson's Disease.
